The Kintetsu Rapid Express from Osaka-Namba reaches Kintetsu-Nara in about 40 minutes, right next to the park. JR from Osaka Station also works but stops farther away.
Deer crackers (shika senbei) cost ¥200 a bundle from vendors in the park. Feed the deer only those, never human snacks. Hold a cracker up and bow: many deer bow back.
The deer are wild. They nibble maps and paper bags and can headbutt in the autumn rutting season, so keep an eye on kids.
Kofuku-ji's Five-Storied Pagoda is under a long restoration and covered in scaffolding.
