Nikko is in the mountains and much colder than Tokyo. Bring a jacket outside summer. Autumn leaves around town peak in late October to early November.
Want Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Falls too? It's a bus up the Irohazaka hairpin road (~45 min each way). Stay overnight or join a day tour.
