Cards are king
Visa and Mastercard work at most shops, restaurants, convenience stores and taxis. Tell your bank you're travelling so your card isn't blocked.
Cash for markets
Street food, market stalls and T-money top-ups at machines are cash. Plan on ₩30,000–50,000 a day in your wallet.
Exchanging and withdrawing
Myeongdong's money changers usually give the best rates. Peso rates in Korea are poor, so bring US dollars or withdraw won at 'Global ATM' machines. WOWPASS machines also exchange cash onto a prepaid card.
Tax-free shopping
Look for 'Tax Free' signs and show your passport for an instant refund at checkout. Missed it? Claim at the airport's tax refund kiosks before you fly.
