Tourist visa required (free for Filipinos)

Philippine passport holders need a temporary visitor visa for Japan. The visa itself is free for Filipinos, who were exempted from Japan's July 1, 2026 visa fee increase; you only pay the ₱520 service fee at the Japan Visa Application Centre (JVAC) run by VFS Global. Since April 7, 2025, DIY travelers apply at JVAC by appointment. The online eVISA is only for Filipinos living in the Philippines who join a package tour from one of the Embassy's designated travel agencies (single entry, up to 15 days).

What you need

Philippine passport, signed and valid for your whole stay (6 months is the safe rule for airlines and immigration)
Visa application form, fully filled in (write N/A on blanks) and signed, with a 4.5 × 3.5 cm photo taken within the last 6 months
PSA birth certificate, plus PSA marriage certificate if married (check the current JVAC checklist for issue-date rules)
Bank certificate showing your average daily balance, and/or your latest ITR (BIR Form 2316)
Daily schedule of your trip with hotel names, addresses and phone numbers
Certificate of employment or business documents (strongly recommended)
All documents printed on A4 paper; no flight booking is needed to apply

Steps

1.Book an appointment on the VFS Global Japan Visa website. No walk-ins. Slots are tight before cherry blossom (March–April) and autumn (October–November) season, so apply 1–2 months ahead.
2.Prepare your documents on A4 paper. Use a black pen (no erasable pens), and make sure every detail matches your passport exactly.
3.Submit at a JVAC (Makati, Parañaque or Quezon City in Metro Manila, or Cebu and Davao) and pay the ₱520 service fee.
4.Wait for processing: at least 6 business days for Manila centers and at least 10 for Cebu and Davao. Track your application online and claim your passport at the JVAC.
5.Joining a package tour instead? Ask the designated agency about the eVISA. The issuance notice must be shown live on your phone at the airport; screenshots and printouts are not accepted.
6.Before you fly, fill in Visit Japan Web for immigration and customs QR codes, register on eTravel within 72 hours of your flight, and pay the ₱1,620 travel tax if it isn't in your ticket.
